Pro’ model photo shoot 05/2010

by Administrator on May.10, 2010, under Glamour

This past week-end, I did something unusual for me. I worked with a professional model. Usually, I privilege photo shoot with regular persons. Why? Firstly, because strangely enough, they taught me everything I know about model interaction. Then, for me, it has always been the insurance of obtaining very natural poses and atmospheres, unobstructed by all the canonical rulings of the modeling eco system.

I was wandering how the photographic relation would be, how the moment would go on with a pro’ model. I was not expecting too much as I was part of a group shooting a model. You barely have the time to talk or direct the model, or to know her. A moment of true was coming up for me… so I thought. Could I produce anything close to the work I create with every day woman?

Well, it was a positive experience for me. We had a real professional working with us. She anticipated a lot of different pauses. Because she was a great professional, she also understood I wanted to direct her differently,  just the way I saw her, personally. So she did work with me, and we had several photographs that came up quite well. We were at an outdoor location. I think I would have preferred an indoor location like a hotel though.

Conclusion? I cannot pronounce myself. I have yet to take the same model in a one to one photo shoot. Then, I will be able to see what to expect from a pro’ model.

So, let me share with you a few photographs, and let me know what you think.

CANON workshop 11/2009

by Administrator on Nov.12, 2009, under Glamour

I had a good time there. CANON came in town to provide us with training on their 580EX flashes. By the same time, I tested the 85mm f1.2 and 100 f2.8 lenses. They are fantastic. My main lens that day was however the 70-200 f2.8 IS. Stunning lens.

Anyhow, we had three models working for us, one male and two females. I had my preferred one as you will see in this post but all of them were great. Even though it was not setup to talk to the model and get them to know me, they are pro’ model and as such they needed less direction to reach somewhat natural result. Unfortunately, the training was first a CANON photo shoot and not a model photo shoot. I have no name or e-mail address to reach those models ever again or  to give them their pictures. I just know that my preferred model liked my work that day when she saw an 11×14″ enlargement.

Let’s not wait. Here are a few prints that are decent enough to show up on my blog.

Benedicte 04/2001

by Administrator on Jul.14, 2009, under Glamour

Well, we met via a model agency ran by a friend, back in Belgium. I’m not sure when this was. I know it was April, and I think it was the year 2001. Since then, we stayed friends. We kind of naturally went along together . We share the passion of photography. She has her own style and I’ve learned from it. She’s an artist, a true one that dares standing out. She’s a photographer, and sometimes also a model. She’s determined and passionate about her photography and her life. You take all of her, or you just don’t. She is beautiful. What else can I say? No other words can be better at it than those. And she’s sweet to the extreme. In two words, you do not meet that kind of person, and personality, everyday in your life. We only worked together once, as I’m quite distant from her (she lives in Belgium). We are thinking about another photo shoot soon. I have already started thinking about the work we can put down together. Anyway, I thought sharing one picture here with you. More are on my web site.

Gwen 06/2008

by Administrator on Jul.10, 2009, under Glamour

A fantastic photo shoot. As all photo shoot, it starts by a “get to know and understand” each other. After a while, Gwen just became so natural, so herself, that my only job was to press on the shutter of my camera. Well, that the simple version of the story, but she is gorgious and proud to be herself. Again, fantastic photo shoot. Thanks for your trust, Gwen.

I did not need to know where her thoughts were then. She was just beautifully...her.
